She’s contributed to making the environment a welcome and friendly one, and I guarantee that you’ll come across someone just as special and amazing as her by coming here regularly (but there’s only one Fernanda of course 😊).

Black Dog Café is a wonderful spot to relax with my friends. The baristas are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Fernanda always has my drinks done super fast and is very cool! I found out she will be leaving soon and I’ll miss her very much.

A cute, quant, eclectic place. Woman owned & operated. Walking in they have a little library, train station & college kids were studying. A quiet atmosphere. They have home baked goods, coffee & tea flavors & variety are phenomenal. The deck /patio (on the back) is on the lake. Peaceful & a beautiful nature landscape to exhale from the hustle & stress of school. This is on my list to visit. You should too!

I recently visited the Black Dog Cafe at 229 Lake Ella Dr, in Tallahassee, FL. I enjoyed my experience having a breakfast at this place. The decor is a little eclectic maybe but very homey. I went to the register and the very nice person helped me with some questions and I had a breakfast bar with coffee. Both were very good. Thanks

Great experience! The baristas were super nice and you could tell they love their jobs even tho it was a packed house and they could have easily been stressed - nope! They were vibing and churning out delicious drinks. We got vanilla Cortados with oat milk that were divine! Espresso is top tier. I’m so sad it was so cold we couldn’t enjoy the gorgeous patio overlooking the lake but it would be amazing in warmer weather. Such a quaint coffee shop. 10/10

Whether you’re in the mood for a quick snack, a cold drink, or just a simple black coffee, this is the kind of place you can count on. Plus, we could all use a friendly hello and a mid-afternoon pick-me-up now and then. Some places aren’t just businesses—they become part of the fabric of a city, woven into so many personal stories along the way. For me, Black Dog Cafe has always been one of those places. Tucked right by the walking path around Lake Ella, it’s one of those spots that’s managed to stay steady while everything else around it seems to change. For decades, it’s been a go-to place for me and students, writers, entrepreneurs, families, and friends—whether you’re there to knock out a deadline, catch up over coffee, celebrate something big, or just sit in a quiet moment and watch the scenery. Since 1997, it’s been a cornerstone of the Lake Ella community and still feels like one of Tallahassee’s most loved gathering spots. And honestly, it’s not a bad spot for a first date either.😉

Love the atmosphere here! It’s got an old Florida vibe with the live oak and shady patio by the lake. They have a wide selection of pastries and nibbles. They even have soup. Every kind of coffee and tea and kombucha on tap.

Such a cool and atmospheric spot by the lake! There are so many ducks and other birds, lots of shade, and it feels especially nice on a hot day in Tallahassee. You can come just to walk around, sit at one of the tables or benches, and relax by the water - you do not even have to visit the café to enjoy the area. It is a peaceful little escape from the city, perfect for a short walk or a quiet break. There is also a memorial honoring Florida veterans who served in the Vietnam War, which makes this place feel even more special.

A cute and whimsy coffee shop with nice indoor seating and lots of outdoor seating. You can sit on the deck outside or walk down the ramp to sit by the pond under the trees. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Their hot mochas are great and their ice tea. They gave us a large dog biscuit for our dog too. Glad we found this on our travels.

Cool little arty, boho cafe. Nice deck in back overlooking a small lake with geese and swans. Had an amazing cinnamon roll, heated up. Sat outside, then inside. Both nice. Parking in a gravel lot near the Cafe. Nice staff.
